Date your spouse

Shaina and I have made it a point to have a date night every week for as long as I remember. It got complicated with Chaia, but we're blessed to have Nana and Papa who come most every Friday night to allow us to get out. So huge to have people in your life you will fight for your marriage with you!

We felt like we were getting into a bit of a rut with just grabbing some dinner and then coming home, so we are spicing it up a bit and challenging each other to plan out a really thoughtful date night a few times each in 2014. We have a Super Bowl Bet where if my team wins, we are going on a date to a sporting event of my choosing. If Shaina's team wins, we go to an art/symphony/play/concert of her choosing. That's just one way we try to keep it fun and interesting.

Here's what we've noticed...too many marriages take a backseat to kids. And then a couple catastrophic things happen...1. The parents enable their kids...let them stay in the house way longer than they should...never push them out of the nests toward adulthood. 2. They have no idea how to love their spouse once the nest is empty. Both have significant consequences.

So?

All skate...What do you do in a year to date your mate? Looking for creative ways to make my marriage better than an average or mediocre marriage!

Believe it or not, 25 years ago, I took up golf so I wouldn't be a golf widow. We golf together every Sunday afternoon (if the weather's good, as I am a fair-weather golfer) or at least more than not! We decided way back then we didn't want to be #2...and we knew we had to work at it.

Oops, hit enter to fast...

And he goes to the theater with me in the winter months...the worse for him, a 3 act (translation) 4 hour Pride and Prejudice play! That's love and dedication to a marriage
