It May Not Get Better

2 Samuel 12:15 After Nathan had gone home, the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and he became ill. 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. 17 The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.

18 On the seventh day the child died. David’s attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, “While the child was still living, he wouldn’t listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.”

19 David noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realized the child was dead. “Is the child dead?” he asked.

“Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.”

20 Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate.

21 His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!”

22 He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’ 23 But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

Sometimes it doesn't get better.

Chaia may not get better.

The primary take aways from our week in Maryland are that she is very interesting and definitely blazing her own path.

Her heart is bad (but not as bad as before)

Her calcifications are bad (but not as bad as before)

Her bones are worse. Worse than ever. New fractures. Unhealed old fractures. No growth.

So we don't have stars in our eyes. We realize fully that this remains a hard and painful and longshot kind of road.

But you know the thing about hope?

It holds on even though it may not get better.

Because as David said..."Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live."

Hope holds on even though it may not get better.

Because there's still a chance that IT MAY.

So we fast. We pray. We weep. We enjoy today. We create memories today.

Because It may or it may not get better.

But she's still here.

And that means He's still writing.

Let me let you in on a little secret...

You're still here too. Trust the Author.

It may get better...It may get worse.

But His story is a better way.

Don't lose hope.

Suffering produces perseverance. Perseverance produces character...character hope and hope does not disappoint.

And our prayers continue for His grace to be sufficient for thee! I can't even imagine being in your shoes with precious Chaia, but I do know He has given you two years so far with her that at one point you had no idea would be a possibility. I pray that her fractures do not cause her unbearable pain, and that those will stop in His name. I do pray for every precious memory you are making as a family to be forever ingrained in your minds and hearts, to sustain you and give you strength for each new day you have together. He does not tell us the plan He has for us in the beginning as I know I may have ran away screaming, no not me, but then who? So your path has been beyond words, but you all have traveled it led by a God that I know ,knows exactly what He is doing! So I pray for Chaia to be free of pain, for Shaina and you Ben to find the strength to face each day, not as her caregivers but as her chosen Mommy and Daddy for a reason. One we may never know on this earth, but one that He has planned for His absolute glory! Prayers for strength, peace, comfort, joy, and love that only He can provide!

The power of life and death is held in the tongue, lay hands on her and speak life into her body, curse the spirit of death, and call things that are not as though they are in Jesus name, without faith we can not please God, the things that I do and greater things shall you do because I go to the Father, speak the promises of God and expect a Miracle. Amen
