Hebrews Challenge Chapter Three

Hebrews 3:1-19

Shift.

"Moses was faithful as a servant in God's House. Jesus is faithful as a Son."

It's a pretty powerful assertion.

Not only is Jesus greater than angels (and some would have certainly been enamored with angels...just like many are now)...but Jesus is greater than Moses.

You know...the key figure of the Old Testament narrative? Moses. Jesus is greater.

And the shift the writer points out means everything to us.

Moses was a servant in the household. So if you claimed connection to God through Moses, you could get as close as a servant. Servants were part of the household...but they were secondary. They were subservient to the Master, directed by the Master, used by the Master.

Jesus is a Son in the household. Sons have connection. Relationship. Status. Love. Inheritance. If you claim connection to God through Jesus, your position to God Shifts.

That shift changes everything.

Not just a servant that has a to do list. You're a child of God.

Too many who follow Jesus only get as close to God as a Servant...but we are sons and daughters.

It all comes down to 'do we know Him?'

Message version: vs 8 " If we can only keep a firm grip on this bold confidence, were the house!" vs 12-14 "..If we can only keep our grip on the sure theing we started out with, were in this with Christ for the long haul."

Keeping the grip to me means an intentional choice. It is so easy to be distracted, to fade, to drift away, to forget, to loosen our grip on His truths, until we find ourselves way off of Gods path. The focus must be on Jesus, the centerpiece.

Very difficult but we all need to hold on to our courage and hope. Our hearts must be softened. Believe. We must focus on Jesus, the cornerstone.

Hebrews 3:6 "And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope."

We boast not in our accomplishments or our knowledge or personal triumphs. Instead we cling to our confidence in Christ and we boast in our hope. I kept thinking of Chaia with this passage. I thought of my confidence that God will work through her life and my hope of his healing and restoration of her body. I'm holding fast to that confidence and I'm boasting in that hope. Isaiah 43 offers so much of that hope and confidence!

Hebrews 3:12 So watch your step, friends. Make sure there's no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God.13 For as long as it's still God's Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn't slow down your reflexes.14 If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we're in this with Christ for the long haul. (The Message)

Jesus is the centerpiece of everything we believe. As children of God we must keep Him our focus. Hold tight to our brothers and sisters so they don't fall. We are in this together. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Let's stay together so we can all stay on the right track.
