Daniel Fast Day Two

Matthew 4:1-4
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. 3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,
‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

True Life won't come from food. It will come from me feasting on the presence of God. Too many of us are malnourished in this. The symptoms of Jesus malnutrition begin small; short tempers, sarcasm, selfish motives...but the more we starve ourselves of Christ, the more bitterness, hatred, broken relationships, lack of self-control and dissension that will rise to the surface.

This is the perfect time to change our most important diet and pray life our lives depend on it...because they do.

Meals for me today:
Breakfast: Banana and natural peanut butter with a glass of water

Lunch: Vegetable Soup, an apple and nuts and raisins with a glass of water.

Dinner: Whole Wheat Pasta and a salad with cucumbers, raisins, nuts and a homemade vinaigrette (Shaina mixed some olive oil and lemon juice and some pepper and spices and hit a home run with a tasty dressing!)

Snacks: Carrots and maybe celery with peanut butter!

Another Delicious Recipe for us.
HUMMUS AND VEGGIE WRAP:
Ingredients:
• 1 (12 inch) tortillas (make sure it is whole wheat)
• 1/2 cup hummus
• 1/8 cup cucumber
• 1/8 cup diced tomato
• 1/8 cup bell pepper
• 1/8 cup shoestring carrots
• 3 slices red onions
• alfalfa sprout
• lettuce (Romaine, a dark green leaf lettuce, is best; avoid Iceburg lettuce - it has little nutritional value and is harder to metabolize)
(You can purchase the whole wheat tortillas, hummus and alfalfa sprouts at the Mustard Seed Market in Fairlawn. Hummus is ground chick peas. Sometimes it is mixed with artichokes or avocados or red peppers. Red pepper hummus is my favorite. Yum.)
Directions:
Prep Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 5 mins
1. Microwave tortilla for a few seconds to make it pliable.
2. Spread hummus over tortilla.
3. Add assorted veggies.
4. Add lettuce last.
5. Roll up and slice in half or eat whole. enjoy!

Day 2: Okay, the sweets are not calling yet... I know they are there and tempting me, but they have been kept at bay so far. I will say that the section of the "do's" are perfect for my girls and me. We love fruits and vegetables and the house is stalked with them. The sweet drinks are all but gone out of the house and that will be a tough one for the girls as they enjoy cranberry juice so much, but they also drink a lot of water anyway, so we are good to go. Ilaria is not doing the fast with Bella and I, so making it work for all of us is and will be a challenge at dinner-time. Ilaria is willing to go most days - meat free - but she still wants her burgers and I have kept a small supply of meat in the freezer for her. Bella has dabbled with being a vegetarian for awhile, so cooking without meat has become second nature for us. Keeping both girls calcium and protein intake is important to me and we are working through the list of "don'ts" and modifying the list to fit their nutritional needs. I love hearing from everyone on how they are doing; what they are eating; and how they are holding up spiritually. As for me and my household, Day 2 is not so bad, as we already eat healthy on a daily basis and always give God thanks for what he provides for us.

Have a great day everyone!

I am so focused on the food that God is not "in charge" yet. I need to focus on God and the rest will come! Headache today!!!
