Chaia, Meds and Noodles

I don't update a ton on Chaia because there isn't a bunch to update on. The prognosis is still the same. They don't think her heart will be able to sustain her body as time goes on. That is why circling Ezekiel 36:26 is so important for us. We are asking boldly that Jesus would take her heart of stone and make it into a heart of flesh. Even as you're reading this, I ask you to stop and pray for that.

One of the adventures in this story is the medical bills. I haven't updated on this much because we actually qualified for supplementary medicaid when our insurance ran out. So a great deal of her expenses were covered through that. More recently, we no longer qualify for the medicaid coverage and insurance companies won't touch her with a 10 foot pole because of the lovely phrase "pre-existing condition".

Thankfully, her heart related things at the Cleveland Clinic are covered by a program that they offer there. So we are still in good shape.

The one thing that is not covered is her prescriptions. She has 11 different meds around the clock and some of them are pretty pricy.

We've been really blessed by people's generosity to our family and it's happening again.

Chaia's grandpa is the pastor at Christ United Methodist Church in Galion and the folks at his church have caught wind of Chaia's story and want to help out so they are putting together a benefit Beef and Noodle Dinner for the munchkin to help out with prescription costs. The noodles are homemade and there are dine in and carry out options available.

This is all happening on Thursday, May 16 from 4:00-7:00 p.m at Christ United Methodist Church (130 East Walnut Street in Galion).

When they told us about their plans, the first thing that came into my mind was one of my favorite scenes from a great movie, Patch Adams. I don't know that Chaia will be swimming in a pool of noodles...but I do know the generosity of the saints of Jesus' bride, the Church who have rallied around the wounded in ways that have deeply impacted us.

If you don't have a church, you are missing out on something amazing!

Chaia and Shaina will likely be at the Benefit, so save the date and come hungry for some noodles!
