Kids These Days Grow Up So Fast

Haven't really updated on Chaia much recently. Here are some things you should know.

She's driving now. (As you can see). She doesn't keep both hands on the wheel, she doesn't keep her eyes on the road in front of her. Its only a matter of time before she starts texting while driving.

She says a lot of syllables but mostly Dadada. When she started this, it was endearing and she always said it in a happy time. Now she says it when she's angry and is dropping baby cuss words. (We had a good run.)

She crawls like crazy and likes the coolness of the hardwood floors. So she 'crawl sprints' on the carpet and then hits the wood floor and lays pancake flat to enjoy the cool touch. Then she falls asleep on the wood floor and sometimes doesn't move for an hour. (Don't judge our parenting. Rule number one. Let sleeping babies lie.)

She loves music. When I get the guitar out, she comes over and 'bebops' right beside me. Sometimes its to the rhythm most of the time its to her own beat. Which is pretty much her story. Her way, Her timing. She also apparently learned how to play the xylophone in St. Louis last week

Between Shaina's anointed musicianship and my affinity for freestyle rapping, I think there's a good shot at a virtuoso talent.

Medically, she still loses about one whole feed per day. She still takes the majority of her meds/food through her NG tube (she is drinking water from a sippy cup). She still is on 11 meds around the clock. She still has a long way to go.

But I guess the point is that so do I. And the point that God is impressing on me is that it is less about the end game and more about the way we get there.

He's more interested in the journey than the destination. And we should be too.

So Lord willing, Chaia will wake up today. And we'll get another day to learn each other, enjoy each other, crawl through makeshift tunnels with each other, play with megablocks, read a book, dance to our own beats, and do life together...today.

Because a certain teacher (and rescuer) tells us we can't add a single hour to our life by worrying about tomorrow. And also that we have a God who is looking intently on us today...meeting our needs today...shaping us today.

We have one shot at life on Thursday, August 30, 2012.

Live. It. Up.
