Hebrews Challenge Chapter 13

Hebrews 13:1-25

The verses that are yellin' this morning.

"be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”"

We are going to watch the two other "Longest Stay" Competitors leave the ICU today. That makes Chaia the longest standing resident on the ICU floor.

There are no prizes for that.

Day after day we watch kiddos come on the ICU floor. Some for a day and then they move one step closer to home. Some for a week and then they move one step closer to home.

And we sit here. Still with more unknowns than knowns. More mysteries than clarity.

Time and time again people come in the room and remark about how amazing it is. Cards, posters, scriptures, Christmas decor. It's nice and reminds us of the support we've got all over the world which is incredible, but it also reminds me that we've been here a long time to accumulate such a Hallmark collection.

So God's Word is timely.

"Be content with what you have. Because God is near."

That's the message of the Gospel. The Message of Christmas.

We have HIM.

So a lack of contentment suggests there is something better out there.

And that is idolatry. And that is absolutely not okay.

So today is a day for contentment.

We've made it to 70 days in the hospital.

And if it takes 70 more for God to heal this little one,

Then in full contentment,

We.

Will.

Wait.

October 14, 1983 through January 12, 1984, my son was in ICU.

God kept him, me and my husband through it all. Wasn't easy. We didn't even know Him then. My God!

As a mother, you have touched my heart with your words that are so real and true.

Without Him we can't move forward so the 3 of us will stand content and wait with you in great anticipation and hope in Jesus Christ. Our Lord and Savior.

I am blessed by verses 5 & 6 (from the Message Bible), "Since God has assured us, 'I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,' we can boldly quote,
'God is there, ready to help;
I'm fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?"

And to Ben and Shaina and little Chaia Joy... thank you for exemplifying Christ for us in your circumstances. Truly God is glorified in you! As verse 7 says: "Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness."

Philippians:4:4-13;" Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again:Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything,but in everything,by prayer and petition,with thanksgiving,present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding,will guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus. Finally brothers whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed you have been concerned,but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying that because I am in need,for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength"
I had a child in the hospital once about the same age as Chaia; It was extremely scary although my child only had croup the not knowing was the worst. My prayers are with you. I pray she comes home to your home in the very near future and that she is cured.
